The term « bio-based » is often used to describe a packaging brought onto the market which is produced from resources of biological origins, which are generally vegetal origins. To this day, stiff paper represents the main bio-based material among the materials that are usually used in household and non-household packaging. Managing vegetal resources is being further looked into by this industry through complementary approaches: certifications, among others, are being studied.
