1- Can you tell us about your role and ANIA’s actions in a few words?

With my team, the Healthy, Safe and Sustainable Healthy Food division defends the food companies’ interests and assists them in optimising the nutritional quality of products, the traceability and food safety, product transparency by making information available to consumers, decarbonisation and the implementation of a better circular economy in which packaging has a central role.

2- ANIA joined the French Packaging Council in 2020 as a member of its first grouping (consumer good companies and their suppliers): can you explain to us what is encouraging ANIA to support the French Packaging Council and its work?

The challenges surrounding packaging are immense for the food industry. It is therefore naturally that the ANIA joined the CNE that allows a place for discussion and exchange for all the players in the packaging value chain. This discussion forum is essential for sharing best practices, while establishing an easy dialogue between all the players and promoting the commitments of companies as well as our positions.

3- What are the main concerns of ANIA’s members regarding “the right packaging”? How can the French Packaging Council help underscore these concerns?

Agri-food companies are highly mobilised on several complex issues, that requires significant investments and expertise, for example:

– Eco-design of packaging

– Sorting and collection

– Recycling

Moreover, the legal and regulatory framework, both French and European, with deadlines that are difficult to meet but also, sometimes, with some contractions between certain measures, generate a great amount of concern and uncertainty for companies.

On all these aspects, the CNE can play a role of support, deciphering the issues and promoting good practice.

4- The French Packaging Council listens to its members: it elaborates thanks to collective intelligence best practices and outreach elements for the benefits of “the right packaging”. What topics could the French Packaging Council explore to be in line with ANIA’s actions?

For us, a major task is to build collectively in order to educate, anticipate and prepare for the objectives set in the European Single Use Plastic Directive. But also in the law to fight against waste and the circular economy (AGEC). I am thinking in particular of the “3R” decree setting general targets for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling, the “Reuse” decree setting targets for reused packaging for industrial, commercial and household packaging, and the decree on the incorporation of recycled material in plastic beverage packaging… The CNE and its members have an essential role to play in all these issues.
