1- In a few words, could you tell us a bit about yourself and the activities of ADF-PCD-PDL?

I have the great responsibility to manage the Paris Packaging Week, which will open its doors on June 29 and 30 at the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles.

It is now under this name that the ADF&PCD and PLD events are gathered and it is the first edition, in 2022, with a brand new graphic identity which is in line with the continuity. The new name is complemented by a new design and reinforced ambitions. Paris Packaging Week is the major French event in Paris that offers three combined events that inspire innovation and stimulate business in the field of beauty and luxury packaging, spray cans and dispensing systems and premium beverages.

It brings together the entire community of the most innovative companies in terms of packaging in the international capital of beauty and luxury. It is also a major event to increase one’s network, to create connections between professionals, to gather information, to observe current trends, to discover the latest innovations… but above all, it is an event where you can discuss with experts and identify the best in the packaging field.  With just a few weeks to go before Paris Packaging Week, pre-registration rates are outstanding and more than 650 suppliers are ready to welcome more than 10,000 professionals to define the future of packaging.

2- What are the highlights of the ADF-PCD-PLD 2022 Paris show, new called “Paris Packaging Week”?

Paris Packaging Week is “the place to be”. This new date will be an opportunity to meet people at key time of the year, just before summer, a time of inspiration and highlights. Over the past few months, our team has been working relentlessly with event partners, exhibitors and the entire community to prepare for  the biggest edition of a 21-year history. We have designed a program of events with a wide variety of conferences and exhibitions to meet the high expectations of visitors. Paris Packaging Week 2022 will be an edition full of encounters, discoveries and innovations, a place where contractors and their teams will be able to find eco-responsible, disruptive and/or trend-setting solutions. More than ever, sustainable development will be the main theme of this edition. This theme will be discussed during the opening ceremony of the PCD Innovation Awards by Franck Marilly, President and CEO of Shiseido Europe, and during the exclusive interview between Michel Fontaine, President of the CNE, and Jacques Playe, Global Director of Packaging and Product Development at L’Oréal. Other highlights include the Innovations Awards Gallery, the Pentawards Gallery, the three Innovation Awards ceremonies, the ecotour, and the presentation of student challenge projects from ESEPAC/ESP and ESIReims.

Feel free to follow all the Paris Packaging Week news on our website https://www.parispackagingweek.com/ for all the information.

3- The exhibition and the CNE have been partners for a while and PCD-ADF-PLD recently became a member of the CNE. What are the most important characteristics of the CNE that contributed to your membership?

I think that what brings us together is the common mission of federating an entire industry, and moving it forward. As a trade show organizer, we seek to create a forum where all packaging actors can share ideas, products, innovations, and thus create together the future of this sector. For us, the CNE has a very similar mission; even if its range is broader than our markets:  beauty, hygiene, wines and spirits, luxury and aerosols. It was only fitting for us to formalize this relationship by becoming a member; on both sides, each becomes a key participant in the other’s world.

4- In June, the CNE and the exhibition will discuss the importance of circular economy for packaging. For you and your exhibitors, what are the key points in circular economy for the benefit of Just Packaging?

The concept of circular economy is many fold. It leads to multiple solutions when it comes to packaging. As a trade show organizer, we are not the judges of what is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ regarding these solutions. As I said earlier, we place the grounds for the different stakeholders to move forward together. That said, of course, we see a lot of circular economy elements that help reduce the impact of a package – there’s a huge amount of work among our exhibitors on the use of RCP, recycling (especially plastics), single-material packaging, reusable packaging, refills, packaging that has a second life, etc. This only emphasizes the fact that there is no simple solution that can be applied to all types of products; but the concept of fair packaging for each product is the best idea to follow.
