1- You are the new Chief Executive of the National Packaging Council. To help us get to know you better, please tell us about your career path.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My name is Antoine Salles, I am 53 years old and the father of three grown children. I have spent most of my career with the Nestl\u00e9 Group. I held various positions there before making the shift to CSR in the mid-2000s. I had the privilege of setting up Nestl\u00e9 Waters’ first Sustainable Development department, before becoming Global Director of Sustainability and Public Affairs in 2012. At that time, packaging issues were already at the top of my agenda.<\/p>\n

In 2019, I set up my own consulting firm. My credo was to stimulate the transition to a circular economy by bringing all the relevant players to the table. I coordinated the French Plastic Pact, launched in 2019 under the auspices of the Ministry and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. I also led the \u201cEn Avant Vrac!\u201d coalition to enable the scaling up of bulk sales in France. This year, on behalf of GS1 France, I led the work of a standardization group on the traceability of reusable packaging.<\/p>\n

My appointment as the new General Delegate of the CNE is therefore a direct continuation of my previous experiences: mobilizing collective intelligence to work together on \u201cright packaging.\u201d<\/p>\n

2- After spending a few weeks working alongside Bruno Siri at the CNE and its various governance bodies, what are the most striking aspects of your journey of discovery?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire CNE team for the wonderful welcome they have given me. Since October, Bruno has been guiding me to help me better understand the intricacies of an organization that he, alongside our President Michel Fontaine, has helped to grow and establish as a key reference in France.<\/p>\n

Over the past few weeks, I have seen how important a role the CNE plays. By bringing together players from across the value chain, all materials and a wide range of expertise related to packaging, the CNE has unparalleled collective strength to provide impartial insight into the challenges facing the sector in France.<\/p>\n

Even before joining the association, I was impressed by the quality, diversity, and rigor of the documents published. This is all the more remarkable given that the CNE has relatively modest resources.<\/p>\n

Finally, Bruno was kind enough to introduce me to many of our members. These initial exchanges allowed me to gauge their respective challenges. I will continue this broad overview in the coming weeks. But one clear message already stands out: everyone has high expectations of the CNE to give our packaging the consideration it deserves.<\/p>\n

3- <\/strong>The packaging industry faces many challenges. In your opinion, what issues should the CNE investigate?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The packaging industry in France is undergoing major changes: e-commerce, evolving consumption patterns, regulatory requirements, globalized competition, digital solutions… So I am arriving at a time when certain existential threats coexist with tremendous opportunities for reinvention. And that makes my mission exciting.<\/p>\n

It is more important than ever to speak with one voice and to convey our message so that our opinions and recommendations are heard by as many people as possible.<\/p>\n

I therefore intend to capitalize on the CNE’s central position to further strengthen its representativeness, attract new members, and reinforce our means of action.<\/p>\n

To do this, it will be essential to work towards a shared vision that the packaging sector can rally around and project itself towards. I look forward to sharing this strategic plan with the President and all our members so that, together, we can reinvent a new CNE. A CNE that promotes the French packaging industry… A CNE that brings together all the energy and vitality of its ecosystem to face the challenges of our time.<\/p>\n
